Drew is one of the most creative and insightful minds artistically in our community since Arlo Eisenberg. Drew brought about a style and renaissance within the community that made you sit up and notice. His style is without a doubt unique to him and him alone. Not afraid to stray from the convention of trick, trick, trick, timed out to a soundtrack, Drew took filming and editing to the level of art form. If you aren’t familiar with Drew’s work with Life + and Daily Bread then you need to ask One Magazine for a look back pronto.

Today we kick off our campaign to look into some of the most influential sections to date in rollerblading. Over the course of the next few months we will take a look into some of the greatest rollerblading parts of all time and how they influenced not only rollerblading, but also myself and our scene. Our first look is at Abdiel Colberg and Domonic Sagona’s part from Beau Cottington’s ‘Concentration’

When I was a freshman in college this VHS masterpiece came across my desk and replaced all other tapes in my collection. It stayed in my VCR for 6 straight months and became my bible. I studied it every lunch break as I ate turkey sandwiches and doritos. The thing that stood out was Beau’s attention to filming and the use of artistic cutaways from skating. This was a revolution in the early days of skate videos where everything was shaky-cam and party shots. All the sections are masterpieces, but this section has always stood out as my favorite. You can see the residual influence in many parts of KFC 2; Collective Consciousness.

Throughout the years Beau has been an influence not only to our scene in Kansas, but scenes and aspiring videographers worldwide. For more videos from Beau and the original hi-res version of ‘Concentration’ you can check out his video page here.

Generic Tour Video Intro Intro Intro from Adam Johnson on Vimeo.

The scene in Kansas City was setup for the current generation by the like of Jeromy Morris, Jeremy Rockwell, Jeff Belzeski, and Dave Temple. When they moved to California the torch was passed down to the next generation and so began a video series that gained in popularity and momentum. From NRD productions to KFC productions to Straight Jacket Dist. and Vibralux Denim and now to Street Artist Urethane. Built on the talents of Alex Broskow, Brandon Mateer, Joseph Shull, Brenton Wheeler, Jeromy Morris, Patrick Kantola, Steve Jones, Jeremy Rockwell, Nathan Simpson, Yuri Zupancic, Travis Toms, Eric Johnson, Adrian Taylor, Mark Eshelman, Steve Eginore, and Todd Blubaugh the Kansas City scene has always maintained a strong foothold in the spotlight. The notoriety of the scene enable KFC productions to jump start videos with other professionals as well. Take a look at over 14 years of video work here:
